Math: Stations & Number Lines

The class sis having a lot of fun with some of the multiplication stations.

Headbands: This requires groups of 3. Two students wear a headband with a card on it. The third player looks at the two cards and tells them the product (answer) to the multiplication problem. Students then must try to figure out their card by looking at the opposing students headband. Great with practicing multiplication and division facts.

Multiplication Spiral: This requires 2 -5 players. Students spread playing cards out into a spiral. They choose a factor number and try to multiply it by the first card. If they get it correct, they then roll a die and get to move that many spaces.

Today we used an open number line to solve division problems. We started wight he dividend of 24 and students worked with a partner to roll a die. They then used that number as the divisor. They had to jump back on the number line that many spaces to find the quotient.

24 divided by 1
24 divided by 2
24 divided by 3
24 divided by 4
24 divided by 6

And they found out that 24 divided by 5 does not result in equal groups.
