First Grade Buddies

Before the break we visited with our First Grade buddies. We sent time the week prior to our visit writing them a holiday card. We then delivered our cards and watched them perform their Reader's Theater skits. A few students from our class helped fill in for absent students.

Everyone had a great time!

Science-Animal Adaptations

In Science we are now discussing animals. Today's focus was on animal adaptations and their purposes. Students worked in small groups to find specific animal adaptations. I loved hearing their discussions and reasoning. I have such a smart class!

Math: Stations & Number Lines

The class sis having a lot of fun with some of the multiplication stations.

Headbands: This requires groups of 3. Two students wear a headband with a card on it. The third player looks at the two cards and tells them the product (answer) to the multiplication problem. Students then must try to figure out their card by looking at the opposing students headband. Great with practicing multiplication and division facts.

Multiplication Spiral: This requires 2 -5 players. Students spread playing cards out into a spiral. They choose a factor number and try to multiply it by the first card. If they get it correct, they then roll a die and get to move that many spaces.

Today we used an open number line to solve division problems. We started wight he dividend of 24 and students worked with a partner to roll a die. They then used that number as the divisor. They had to jump back on the number line that many spaces to find the quotient.

24 divided by 1
24 divided by 2
24 divided by 3
24 divided by 4
24 divided by 6

And they found out that 24 divided by 5 does not result in equal groups.

Math: Divison Multi-step Problem Solving

Our class is working on solving story problems. The goal was for them to look at all of the answer choices and to find the correct answer. They then had to be able to prove why the other answers were wrong. They are working on solving multi-step problems. Here is some of their work...

Math: Division Introduction

We started to discuss division in math class. Students worked with a partner or small group to divide a certain number of cubes into equal parts. We discussed the new academic vocabulary: dividend, divisor, and quotient.

Science-Measuring Force

During our Science lessons this week the class had the opportunity to rotate to each of the 3rd grade teachers' classrooms. Each teacher taught a different lessons and the students learned about different simple machines.

My class was measuring force with a spring scale. They used trucks pulled up inclined planes. They tested to see if more force was used when an object was pulled on its side or its wheels.

November-Gratitude

Mr. Trayler came into our class to discuss gratitude.

I had fun seeing a student while at our Spring Creek BBQ spirit night!
