On the first day of school I told the kids in my class that they were going to be the ones making the classroom rules this year. They brainstormed a list of rules that would help them be successful as a student in 3rd grade. I wrote them down on the chart paper.
On another day we talked about how all of their rules could be categorized into 3 categories: Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible. We then re-read the rules they chose and sorted them into the 3 categories.
I then wrote them down on our poster to hang in the classroom. I am glad that they were able to help set up the expectations for a calm and successful year!
